The Independent Mail reports that the $148 million project will replace the existing Pendleton High with a campus of between 225,000 and 235,000 square feet that will have capacity for 1,200 students. The new school also will have a state-of-the-art track, stadium, and a baseball and softball complex.
"Enrollment has grown rapidly, and classroom capacity will be exceeded by 2026-27," District 4 Superintendent Dee Christopher said. "We have seen growth of over 300 students in the last three years."
After construction of the high school is completed, the existing Pendleton High will be converted to a middle school
Christopher said the new Pendleton High will give the district the space to handle growth over the next 10 years and beyond.
