Los Angeles Valley College breaks ground on academic building
The Los Angeles Community College District has broken ground on a 60,000-square-foot academic building on the Los Angeles Valley College campus in the Valley Glen neighborhood.
The Los Angeles Daily News reports that the construction of Academic Building 2 is the latest project in a $900 million renovation and building program at the campus. Academic Complex 1 also is under construction.
College President Barry Gribbons says Academic Building 2 will provide "modern, technology-enabled learning environments for communication studies, English, ESL and technology."
The first floor of the facility will have a technology lab for students in the college’s manufacturing program. In addition to classroom facilities, the building will have faculty offices.
The building is replacing three aging structures directly off the main quad on the west side of the campus. It will feature a bright yellow spine that will extend into newly created green spaces, together echoing the school’s colors.
The architect is NAC Architecture and the builder is PCL Construction.
