Alabama A&M University's Board of Trustees has approved construction plans for a $58 million Student Amenities Center on the Huntsville campus.

The university says the new $58 million facility will reshape the student experience with state-of-the-art gathering spaces, centralized campus services, dining options, and student support offices.

The building will bridge East and West campus across Meridian Street, create a transformative drive through the campus and establish a new hub for activity.

“Our new facility will offer the amenities today’s students expect to experience at a university campus," said Daniel Wims, university president.

The building is expected to include a food court, flexible theater space, student services offices, a campus bookstore and merchandise shop, conference spaces, a game room, student governance offices, and outdoor pavilions.

Construction is scheduled to begin later this year.

Alabama A&M is the largest Historically Black College and University in the state.
