New intermediate school planned for Madison County (Alabama) district

July 18, 2024
The campus will be built in Harvest and will serve about 1,260 students in grades 4, 5 and 6.

The Madison County (Alabama) school board has approved the construction of a new intermediate school in Harvest, the system’s first new-construction school since 2014.

WHNT-TV reports that the intermediate school will house students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.

The school board approved a $43,766,524 construction bid from Bailey Harris Construction for the new 114,000-square-foot school.

The school is set to have capacity for about 1,260 students. It will have 45 classrooms, four special needs classrooms, a band room, art room and large gymnasium.

Madison County School Board Vice President Heath Jones said a new intermediate school in the area was needed to relieve congestion at existing schools and to plan ahead for future growth.

Construction is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2026-27 school year.
