The Rochester (New Hampshire) School Department is scheduled to break ground next week on a 420-student elementary school.

Foster’s Daily Democrat reports that the 68,000-square-foot facility will serve kindergarten through fifth grade and replace two existing city elementary schools: the School Street School and the already-closed Nancy Loud School. The new campus also will make it possible to remove five modular classrooms at the Chamberlain and William Allen schools.

The facility’s first floor will have a library, cafeteria, gymnasium, rooms dedicated to music and art, and special education class space. Classrooms will be equipped with modern technology, the district says.

The second floor will house a dozen classrooms and additional special education spaces.

The project is anticipated to cost about $33.6 million. The Rochester City Council approved funding of $15.5 million toward the school. The New Hampshire Department of Education provided $15.77 million.

The scheduled construction completion date is July 2025.
