3 school buildings open for 2024-25 in Charlotte-Mecklenburg (North Carolina) district

Aug. 26, 2024
A new high school, a new elementary, and a replacement elementary school welcome students for the first time.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg (North Carolina) district is debuting three new facilities as it begins the 2024-25 school year.

The Charlotte Observer reports that the new facilities are Ballantyne Ridge High School and Knights View Elementary School in south Charlotte, as well as a new building for Bruns Avenue Elementary.

  • The 100-classroom Ballantyne Ridge High cost $158.6 million and will relieve crowding at Ardrey Kell, South Mecklenburg and Myers Park high schools, the district says. The school will open with a full ninth- and 10th-grade class, and about half of a junior class--about 1,550 students total. A senior class will be added in 2025-26.
  • Knights View Elementary cost just shy of $60 million to build. It has 45 classrooms and is directly across the street from Ardrey Kell High School.
  • Bruns Avenue Elementary also is a 45-classroom facility; it replaces a campus that was built in 1969. Construction of the new campus cost $48.9 million.

Funding for the construction projects came from a $922 million bond package approved by voters in 2017.
