Iowa State University has begun to demolish 66-year-old LeBaron Hall so it can build a new home on the Ames campus for the university's College of Human Sciences.

The Ames Tribune reports that the $51.5 million project, including renovations of McKay Hall and the Human Nutritional Science Building, will replace LeBaron Hall. It will be a three-story building with classrooms, a multipurpose courtyard and renovated lobbies.

LeBaron Hall's demolition and replacement will cost $39 million.

Construction is expected to be finished by fall 2026.

The original LeBaron Hall, built in 1958, will be expanded to 30,000 square feet. The facility will have a 100-seat university classroom, studios for the college's apparel program, experiential learning space for the event management program, and a textiles and clothing lab.

Classes and laboratories that are typically held at LeBaron Hall have been moved to the Student Innovation Center, McKay Hall and Bessey Hall.
