Greenville County (South Carolina) district breaks ground on replacement middle school

Oct. 25, 2024
The 51-year-old Northwest Middle School will be replaced with a 1,000-student, $92.5 million campus.

The Greenville County (South Carolina) district has broken ground in Travelers Rest on a replacement middle school.

The Independent Mail reports that the new version of Northwest Middle School is expected to be ready in August 2027 for 1,000 students.

The 150,000-square-foot facility will have a gymnasium with locker rooms, an athletic field with a track, tennis courts, and baseball and softball field, the district says.

The project is expected to cost about $92.5 million, the Greenville Journal reports..

The existing school has about 800 students and is a 10-minute drive away. The building opened in 1973. School Superintendent W. Burke Royster said a new school was needed to meet present-day needs and ones the district cannot foresee yet.
