Xavier University has broken ground on a 130,000-square-foot facility on the Cincinnati, Ohio, campus that will house its new College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The university says the new facility will include features such as a state-of-the-art simulation hospital with 16 exam rooms and five flexible simulation rooms, a nearly 200-seat lecture hall and a 5,600-square-foot meeting hall.

Plans also call for a teaching kitchen where students can learn how to prepare nutritious meals.

“In a few short years, this premier facility will serve as a destination program for aspiring physicians seeking a holistic and patient-centered education, unique wrap-around services and world-class care,” said Xavier University President Colleen Hanycz.

Now seeking programmatic accreditation for the college, Xavier is on schedule to complete the building in 2026 and to welcome its first class of aspiring physicians in fall 2027.

When established, the college will become the first Jesuit osteopathic medical school in the world and Ohio’s first new medical school in nearly half a century.

The architects are The S/L/A/M Collaborative and MSA Design; the general contractor is Messer Construction Co.
