The University of Alabama System board of trustees has approved multiple construction projects for the Birmingham campus.

Al.com reports that the university will build a new student services building and carry out hospital and research facility renovations.

Trustees approved an $84 million plan to demolish Campbell Hall and construct a new student services and administration building. The 134,000-square foot space will house the president, provost, finance and administration, public relations and university relations.

The four-story building will also provide space for admissions, the registrar’s office, financial aid, a writing center and an academic success center.

The board also approved a 42,600-square foot expansion of UAB Health System’s downtown Birmingham emergency department. More than 29,000 square feet of the existing space will be renovated.

The $70 millon project project will upgrade 59 exam rooms, add waiting space and expand imaging capabilities.

The board also approved a $13 million upgrade of the fifth floor of the Zeigler Research Building. The 11,800-square-foot space includes research, imaging and procedure spaces.
