Whitefield Academy, a private Christian school in Smyrna, Georgia, has broken ground on a $39.2 million Learning Commons.
The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the building will act as a central hub for the 100-acre campus and its nearly 950 pre-K through 12th grade students.
Head of School Kevin Bracher says the commons will meet some overdue needs for the community — including providing a gathering space for students and staff.
Slated to open in fall 2026, the Learning Commons will provide a STEAM hub/innovation lab, additional classrooms, ahn expanded library, campus store, cafe, prayer room, meeting spaces, offices and a dining hall.
Dininig space for middle and upper school students is badly needed.
“They have been eating in the mezzanine in our athletic center for quite some time, and I’m excited that they will have a true dining hall,” Bracher said.
Part of the Learning Commons will also serve as a welcome center; it will have an admissions office, lobby, meeting area and conference rooms.
The school has a $40 million fundraising effort, the Called Up Capital Campaign, to pay for the new facility.
Whitefield’s long-term enrollment goal is about 1,100 students.
