The Millington (Tennessee) school district has broken ground on a $35 million expansion that will create a dedicated middle school.

The Daily Memphian reports that the plans call for a 57,000-square-foot expansion on the campus of Millington Intermediate School, creating a facility that will serve 850 students in grades six through eight.

The architect is A2H Architects Engineers Planners, and the contractor is Linkous Construction.

For five years, middle and high school students have shared the Millington Central High School campus.

This expansion is the centerpiece of the Millington school board’s five-year plan to expand the entire district. They also plan to open a new pre-K and elementary school within the next five years

The Millington school district was formed in 2013 when the city decided to leave the Shelby County school system after it merged with the Memphis district.
