Texas A&M University-San Antonio has broken ground on its campus for a 26,000-square-foot early child education facility.

The San Antonio Express-News reports that the $22 million Educare San Antonio facility is set to open by summer 2026.

The facility will be the first of its kind in Texas and 26th in the national Educare system. It will offer infant, toddler, preschool and kindergarten services.

"Educare San Antonio truly is an essential strategy for changing Bexar County's ecosystem and enhancing the quality for every child in every ZIP code," said Melissa Jozwiak, professor of early childhood at Texas A&M San Antonio.

As a teaching and learning laboratory school, it will serve about 200 families in the area, and provide after-hours care for 50 to 60 children of A&M students attending evening classe. Jozwiak said less than 30% of young children in Bexar County are at a high-quality early childhood center.
