The University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota, has broken ground on an athletic complex that will bring football, soccer, softball, and track & field competition back to campus.

The $45 million Marauders Athletics Complex will be built east of the existing field house; the university hopes to complete construction in time for the fall 2027 NCAA Division II season.

The university says the project is a key component of Phase II of the university's $272 million Vision 2030 Capital Campaign.

For decades, University of Mary’s football, soccer, softball, and track & field teams have competed at venues across Bismarck. The Athletics Complex will enable these programs to return to campus.

“We are excited that these new facilities will help propel our scholar-athletes, our programs, and our entire university to the upper echelon of NCAA Division II athletics,” said director of Intercollegiate Athletics Marcus Wagner.

At the heart of the complex is the Research and Performance Center, an innovative facility that redefines the intersection of academics and athletics. On its east side will be a premier space dedicated to strength and conditioning, sports medicine, and nutrition. On the west side will be the grandstand for Marauders football, with seating for about 2,500 fans.

During the week, the center's upper level will function as classroom space for students in the Saint Gianna School of Health Sciences, where future healthcare professionals will learn in a hands-on environment alongside scholar-athletes.

Also central to the new complex is the Multipurpose Sports Dome, an inflatable structure that will serve as the home venue for soccer and softball. Spanning 275 feet by 400 feet with a height of 85 feet at its peak, it will be the largest facility of its kind in North Dakota.

Designed for year-round use, the dome will be a vital resource not only for University of Mary scholar-athletes but also for the broader Bismarck-Mandan community. Local youth sports organizations, club teams, and regional tournaments will have rental access to the space.
