The Staunton (Illinois) District has broken ground on construction of a new high school.
The Alton Telegraph reports that the project calls for the demolition of the existing high school building and construction of a new classroom building, an auxiliary gym and several building renovations.
“It was time for some upgrades,” Staunton Superintendent Brett Allen said. “The cost of repairing features of the building became really costly.”
The project will have three phases.
Phase 1 will add a two-story, 20-classroom school building that will have larger classrooms with improved technological capabilities. It is estimated to be completed in spring 2026.
Phase 2 is centered on relocating the existing high school classrooms to the new building. Upon relocation, environmental contaminants will be removed from the old facility, and the three-story building will be demolished.
Phase 3 will complete the project with the construction of a 500-seat auxiliary gym. It also will have new locker rooms, and a performing arts stage.
The architect is FGM Architects, and the builder is Poettker Construction.
