The College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick has begun a $16 million expansion of its nursing and health sciences building.

The college says the expansion of Miriam and Hugh Nunnally Hall will give students in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences more realistic, hands-on, clinical experiences in a safe and controlled environment.

Lydia Watkins, dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, says the existing space available for labs, simulation rooms, classrooms, and support areas have limited the school's capacity for growth.

“This expansion marks a transformative step forward, significantly enhancing what we can offer to our students,” Watkins says.

The added space includes nine simulation rooms within the Simulation Center; a labor and delivery room with a dedicated infant care area; a medical surgical room; an operation room; and five rooms within an intensive care unit.

The number of beds in the nursing skill labs will increase from 15 beds to 40. The new addition will also enable an increase in enrollment for both nursing and radiologic science programs.
