Highlights

  • The new Rossford middle school is set to open in August 2027.
  • Most of the funding for the school comes from enterprise zone agreements with Amazon.
  • Rossford has 1,700 students, and the new school will enable the district to accommodate future growth.

The Rossford (Ohio) district is building a $35 million, 76,000-square-foot middle school.

The Toledo Blade reports that the funds for the new school are coming from revenue generated by enterprise zone agreements, mainly with three Amazon facilities.

The school is expected to open in August 2027 and will serve about 400 students in fourth through sixth grade.

The newest Amazon facility in Perrysburg Township has a 10-year, 100% tax abatement that will provide $275,000 annually to Rossford schools.

Another Amazon facility in the township will generate $641,600 per year over 10 years for the school district. An Amazon fulfillment center in Rossford is part of an enterprise zone agreement gives that gives the schools $579,000 a year for 15 years.

The enterprise zone funds enable the district to build new facilities without having to ask taxpayers to approve levy increases.

The Rossford district has 1,700 students enrolled. With the new school, it will have space for up to 2,500 students in the three buildings.
