A new 8,400-square-foot addition will link the historic Glenn and Towers Residence Halls, as imagined in the original 1940 master plan, according to press release from Stevens & Wilkinson.

The Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta will renovate two residential facilities, connecting the two buildings in the process.

A new 8,400-square-foot addition will link the historic Glenn and Towers Residence Halls, as imagined in the original 1940 master plan, according to press release from Stevens & Wilkinson.

All of the building systems will also be replaced, and accessibility shortcomings will be addressed. New student amenities, such as a fitness center, multipurpose meeting room, classroom and small group study rooms, will be added.

Stevens & Wilkinson will partner with VMDO Architects on the project, which is on track for LEED Gold status, according to the press release.

“The 616 residents will enjoy new expanded social and study lounges, restrooms and laundries on every floor,” Ron Stang, chairman for Stevens & Wilkinson, said in a statement. “The renovation scope includes incorporating new elevators; converting existing open attic spaces into two new residential floors; and replacing slate roofs and historically accurate windows.”

A redesign of the grounds will make way for new spaces for recreation and entertainment. The 125,000-square-foot project is expected to wrap up next year.
