Architects for the Cleveland Heights High School renovation will present the latest round of plans for the $78.8 million project.
This will be the most recent set of changes that have been made in order to keep the project within its budget. The design team has already reduced the pool from 10 to eight lanes and eliminated most of the planned addition to the third floor, while scrapping plans for a second lecture hall, larger locker room and culinary food lab, according to Cleveland.com.
The school district will consider taking bids for a 10-lane pool as a future upgrade.
Other changes designed to reduce the total cost of the renovation included replacing plans for a black box theater with a drama classroom featuring a small stage; reducing the number of seats in the gym from 2,000 to 1,900; cutting down wrestling room space from two mats to 1.5 mats; and reducing the project labs from 1,400 to 1,200 square feet, according to Cleveland.com.
Construction on the new high school will begin later this year and is expected to be finished in fall 2017. During the renovations, students will attend classes at Wiley School in University Heights.
