The University of Washington has opened a center in Spokane.

The university, with its home campus 280 miles to the west in Seattle, says the UW Spokane Center will serve as a hub for area alumni, students, prospective students, parents and supporters with space for meetings and special events.

The facility, situated in Spokane's University District, had been a Visitors Center. The building has been remodeled to accommodate the university, which is leasing the space from the city of Spokane.

The space will serve a variety of purposes, the university says, including business outreach, alumni activities and student admissions. The site also will help support the UW’s efforts to expand its existing medical school in Spokane.

“We are extremely excited to have a new gathering space in Spokane for people to further engage with the University of Washington,” says Randy Hodgins, UW Vice President for External Affairs. “With the UW Spokane Center, we will be strengthening our presence with a dedicated space in the heart of the city where students, potential students, alumni and community supporters can gather for receptions, special events, or to just learn more about the University of Washington.”
