Much-needed repairs are coming to the Wallowa (Ore.) school district.

Wallowa voters have approved a $7 million bond proposal for school improvement and repairs. The passage of the bond means the district will also receive a $4 million grant from the Oregon Department of Education, reports the Wallowa County Chieftain

The largest swath of the $11 million will go toward upgrades to the heating, cooling and electrical systems, says Superintendent Tammy Jones. Safety and security improvements at the schools and renovations to the gym, including bringing areas of the gym up to code, make up another large portion of the bond.

According to Wallowa School District's website, it will be replacing a 40-year-old boiler and  piping that ranges from 72 to 99 years old. For safety updates, the district is enhancing building entries, adding emergency communication and security systems and perimeter fencing outside the school.
