Wisconsin district is renovating a former middle school for a diesel mechanic program
A first-of-its-kind high school training facility for diesel mechanics is being built at L-C High School in Luxemburg, Wis.
The goal of the Ahnapee Diesel program is to keep trained diesel mechanics in the state, reports We Are Green Bay.
The Luxemburg-Casco (Wis.) school district will house the program in a former middle school. The space had been used for art, wood shop and cafeteria areas, will be converted into a Diesel and Fabrication space. It will consist of classrooms and a fabrication area, measuring 1,000 and 4,200 square feet respectively, according to the school district's website.
In order to accommodate the program, the district says it will lower the elevation of the concrete floor slab by 2 feet so a full-size semi-truck cab can fit in the building.
The district will install enhanced exhaust systems and new duct work to mitigate air contaminants introduced through welding, grinding and fabrication.
The program is a partnership with the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC). It will enable juniors and seniors to receive high school and college credit.
