Rock Island, Ill., high school is getting a $9.8 million renovation

The expansion will add about 38,000 square feet to the school.

Rock Island High School in Rock Island, Ill., is undergoing a $9.8 million renovation. 

The school will see updates to its cafeteria, a commons addition, an outdoor courtyard and entrance among other updates, reports WQAD8 news.

The expansion will add about 38,000 square feet to the school.

The campus has a good amount of fencing around it, and students have to to work around the construction while classes are underway.

The $9.8 million project came in about $400,000 over budget.

The bulk of funding for the project comes from a 1% sales tax in the city of Rock Island. 

Legat Architects is the architect, and Bush Construction is the builder.
