Century-old Charleston County (S.C.) elementary school receives $11 million in upgrades
Julian Mitchell Elementary in Charleston, S.C., one of Charleston County district's oldest schools, has undergone an $11 million renovation.
The upgrade added a computer lab, a front office with increased security, and an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) visitor center, reports WCSC-TV.
The last renovation at the school took place in 1980.
According to the district, the project created a new secured vestibule at the main entrance, which is on the second floor. Relocating the front office in place of an existing classroom enabled the district to construct a new exterior elevator.
Students attended Camp Road Middle School last year while construction took place.
The architect is Red Iron Architects and Brantley Construction Group is the general contractor.
