Mathews (Ohio) district is undergoing $2.6 million in renovations
The Mathews (Ohio) district is upgrading Baker Elementary School and the Mathews High School football stadium.
The district is spending nearly $1.8 million in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and roof upgrades at Baker, and $821,744 to improve the stadium, reports The Tribune Chronicle. Both schools are in Vienna.
Along with HVAC repairs, the elementary is gaining four classrooms, restrooms, an auxiliary gym, spaces for occupational and speech therapy, and two offices for special services. The district plans to move 100 students from Currie Elementary to Baker in two years.
The district is planning to sell the Currie site, as well as the board office building and property.
Officials said passage of a renewal school operating levy on the November ballot would help cover the renovation costs.
Proposed stadium improvements include replacing the bleachers, scoreboard and press box. The home bleachers will be replaced by a 500-seat bleacher along with a new visitor bleacher.
