The Clark-Pleasant (Ind.) school district is planning a $238 million renovation of the Whiteland Community High School campus in Whiteland.
The high school was built in 1957 -- but now with more than 2,000 students at the school and the district’s population continuing to grow rapidly -- the district needs newer, expanded facilities, reports The Daily Journal.
A revised renovation proposal calls for putting the entire indoor section of the campus in one larger building and attaching to the existing high school a 35,200-square foot natatorium, a 1,000-seat auditorium, and spaces for band and choir and other performing arts.
Another part of the proposal calls for building a two-story, 100,000-square-foot academic wing attached to the north side of the high school, and a student activities center on the west side. As now proposed, the renovations at Whiteland Community High School would cost about $238 million.
An earlier option, presented in November, called for a two-story building between the north annex and main high school building that would house administrative offices, the school’s cafeteria and the media center.
If plans are approved this spring, construction could start in 2023 and take about four years to complete.
