The University of California, Los Angeles, is upgrading its practice rooms in the Herb Alpert School of Music Schoenberg Music Building.
A $5 million donation from the Herb Alpert Foundation is enabling UCLA to upgrade the buildings 46 practice rooms that have not been fully refurbished since their construction in 1955, the university says in a news release.
The rooms will be outfitted with enhanced acoustics, modern LED lighting and hardwired Wi-Fi. Once completed, the university will rename the space Imagination Hall.
The Herb Alpert School of Music unites jazz, classical performance, musicology and ethnomusicology, the university says.
The Alpert Foundation's $5 million donation continues its longtime support of the university's music school. A $30 million gift enabled UCLA to establish the school of music as a standalone entity in 2007; it is the first and only school of music in the University of California system.
