California School for the Deaf-Riverside is in line for funding that will enable it to renovate its football field and other athletic facilities.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has proposed funding for a $43.1 million overhaul of the school's athletic facilities, reports The Los Angeles Times

The existing football field is plagued with bumpy grass and dirt and needs other cosmetic upgrades such as new LED lights. It has capacity for about 150 fans.

The planned improvements will uproot the sod and replace it with synthetic turf. Portable LED machines will be replaced with permanent lighting. The upgraded stadium will have new bleachers that will be able to sit about 800 patrons.

The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
