Port Jervis City (N.Y.) district is converting middle school into an elementary
The Port Jervis City (N.Y.) district is converting Port Jervis Middle School into an elementary school.
The 100-year-old middle school will undergo renovations and an expansion so it can accommodate students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade, reports Mid Hudson News.
For the 2022-23 school year, half of the existing middle school will be used as learning space, and only seventh graders will attend. Eighth grades will attend the campus on Route 209 in classroom space previously used by the Anna S. Kuhl Elementary and Port Jervis High School.
For 2023-24, the new addition and the renovated half of Port Jervis Middle School will be complete and again used only for seventh grades. The unrenovated half of the school will then be renovated.
By 2024-25, it is expected that the fully renovated building will open as a elementary school. The Anna S. Kuhl campus will become the district’s middle school for sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.
