Oakland University is renovating the William Beaumont School of Medicine's O’Dowd Hall on the Rochester, Mich., campus.

The $9.7 million project call will add mid-size classrooms, more study space, and a break area with kitchen-related amenities, the university says in a news release. The renovation also will upgrade the building entrance.

About 5,000 square feet on the first floor will be renovated to create 10 classrooms consisting of 14-seat seminar rooms and operable partitions so that some of the seminar rooms can be expanded to 28 seats.

Corridor upgrades and a new entrance will create about 75 additional study/social seats as well as provide a pre-function area. Two unisex restrooms will be added, and the current restrooms will be renovated.

The new entrance to be on the east side of the building, which will increase its visibility on campus. The entryway will have an open staircase that will connect the first and second floors.
