Renovated elementary reopens in Providence, Rhode Island

Oct. 8, 2024
Pleasant View Elementary School has received an $18 million facelift.

The Providence (Rhode Island) district has renovated Pleasant View Elementary School and reopened it as a “like-new” facility this fall.

WPRI-TV reports that the renovations are part of the district’s $1 billion school facilities plan, which aims to put every student in a new or “like-new” building by 2030.

Among the upgrades included in the $18 million renovation: new furniture, windows, an upgraded security system, new cafetorium, indoor therapy play area, library media center and  HVAC system.

The district says the new building serves students from preK through grade five and has the capacity to serve 418 students. The school meets a unique school population with 11 preK classrooms and over 40% of the students identifying as differently-abled.

A 2022 school facilities report said a significant number of Providence elementary schools were  lacking green spaces and other features needed for 21st-century learning.

Pleasant View is the fourth new or like-new school building that has opened in the past two academic years.
