Davenport North High will get a $30 million upgrade, officials say.
Feb. 12, 2025

The Davenport (Iowa) school board has approved foundational work and cost estimates for phased renovations to North High School.

The Quad City Times reports that construction costs for the foundation work, projected to be completed by August 2025, are estimated to be $2.4 million.

Superintendent TJ Schneckloth says the overall renovation project is expected to cost $30 million.

The renovations to North High will include:

  • A 450-seat cafeteria addition, with a new kitchen and serving space.
  • A new science and student services addition.
  • A new, centralized reception/administration office and entry canopy. The administrative office will feature a renovated corridor, staff workroom and a wellness room addition.
  • Northeastern building expansions and upgrades, including new bathrooms, updated English-Language Arts classrooms and a new storm shelter with backup power, sized for the entire building occupancy.

External site upgrades will include a new drop-off area and service drive, an entry canopy, an expanded front plaza; new signage and an outdoor dining space.

District leaders also plan to improve career and technical education spaces at North.

Schneckloth said the renovations will make the building better suited for high school; when the North facility opened in 1972, it was a middle school.
