The Colorado Springs (Colorado) district is carrying out a $100 million renovation of Palmer High School.
KKTV-TV reports that the overhaul at the district's oldest high school is set to begin in June. The project will tear down several buildings, update classrooms, and design a new athletic field area.
The first phase of construction will focus on academic additions to the building along Weber Street and renovations to the original 1939 building, The Colorado Springs Gazette reports.
Abatement and demolition for the new academic wing will begin in June, followed by renovations to the 1939 building and demolition of the 1968 building on the corner of Nevada Avenue and Boulder Street.
Plans call for a new entry plaza entering from East Boulder Street, open space designs with increased natural light connecting the existing heart of the school, and an expanded courtyard.
Students will continue to have classes on campus while the renovations proceed, the district says.
