Maine college tops Princeton Review's list of greenest colleges
For the fifth consecutive year, the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine, has been ranked the nation's greenest college by The Princeton Review.
Of the 695 higher education institutions taking part in the review, 416 ranked high enough in sustainability efforts to be included in the Review's 2021 Guide to Green Colleges.
College of the Atlantic has been singled out for being the first college in the United States specifically founded to focus on the relationship between humans and the environment. In 2007, it became the first carbon-neutral college in the nation.
The Review determined the rankings after examining a combination of school-reported data and student opinion from the 695 higher education institutions.
Data from the student survey included student assessments of the influence of sustainability issues on academic and campus experiences; administrator and student support for environmental awareness and conservation efforts; and the visibility and impact of student environmental groups on the campus.
