States with the most students enrolled in charter schools, 2018-19

Across the nation, more than 3.3 million attended charter schools in 2018-19

Enrollment in charter schools has grown steadily in the 2010s.

According to statistics from the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, the number of students attending charter schools has risen from 2,053,976 in 2011-12 to 3,317,512 in 2018.

The largest state, California, also has the most students attending charters—654,549.

Here are the 10 states that had the greatest numbers of students enrolled in charter schools in 2018-19.
