Just as it did in 2018-19, China sent more college students to the United States in 2019-20 than any other nation in the world.
The International Institute of Education's 2020 Open Doors report says that 372,532 students from China were enrolled in U.S. higher education institutions in 2019-20.
That represents 34.6% of the 1,075,496 students international students attending U.S. colleges and universities in 2019-20.
Overall, the number of international students enrolled in colleges and universities in the United States declined by 1.8% in 2019-20 compared with the previous year.
International students accounted for 5.5% of all students in U.S. higher education, the report found.
