U.S. cities most equipped for remote learning

An analysis by Grand Canyon University looks at which cities are in the best position to accommodate online student learning.

Grand Canyon University, a private, for-profit institution with tens of thousands of students enrolled in online courses, has put together an analysis to determine which U.S. cities are in the best position to accommodate remote student learning.

The university looked at 50 large U.S. cities and analyzed nine factors:

•Percentage of households with a home computer
•Percentage of households with a broadband internet subscription
•Average number of persons per household
•Median household income
•Average hourly tutor rate
•Average annual cost of infant care
•Percentage of children (ages 2-17) ever diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
•Statewide public school spending per student
•Statewide percentage of children in poverty

Using a 100-point rating system, the analysis concluded that Seattle, Wash., is the best city for virtual learning.

“Median household income in the city is over $85,000, which enables families to pay for proper wi-fi and computers as well as assistance like childcare and tutoring—all of which make remote learning easier for students,” the university says.

Here are the 10 U.S. cities that Grand Canyon University says are the most equipped for remote learning:
