Weed (Calif.) district is replacing mold-contaminated elementary school
The Weed (Calif.) Elementary District is replacing its only campus because of black mold infestation.
In October 2020, the district shut down the campus after workers uncovered mold in the school's main building, quad rooms and music room
Other facility problems include the presence of asbestos and lead paint. In addition, some campus buildings are not seismically sound.
Students will be housed in portable classrooms until the new campus is built.
The new school will feature a modern HVAC system, an outdoor amphitheater, and new playgrounds. Campus walkways will be heated and have an overhang to protect students and staff in inclement weather.
The new facilities are slated to open by April 2023.
