Al.com reports that Bissiah Hedges, a kindergartner at George Washington Carver Elementary School in Tuskegee, was killed at about 6:30 a.m. on a road in the Fort Davis community, about 15 miles from Tuskegee.
Police say the driver usually saw the boy running from his front door on her left-hand side. Today, she did not see him run out. The driver did not see that Bissiah was trying to pick up a notebook and bag of candy on the right-hand side of the bus, Bentley said. She drove off, thinking he was staying home, and a back tire ran over him.
Alabama state troopers are investigating the accident.
