The Boulder Daily Camera reports that Karen Smith, a physical education teacher at Angevine Middle School in Lafayette, Colo., is on paid administrative leave, according to Boulder Valley School District spokesman Randy Barber.
Lafayette police Commander Brian Rosipajla says officers responded to the school after a report of a teacher assaulting a child for refusing to stand for the pledge.
Barber says the Boulder Valley district allows students to sit or stand during the pledge.
The school district sent a letter from the school's principal and two assistant principals informing parents that a substitute teacher would be filling in for Smith while police investigate the incident.
