A 15-year-old female student has been stabbed to death by a campus trespasser at Stagg High School in Stockton, Calif.

CBS 13 reports that the attack on Aliycia Reynaga happened around 11 a.m. Monday in front of campus, according to the Stockton Unified School District.

Police say the suspect—later identified as Anthony Gray—drove to Stagg and went through a campus gate, then attacked before security and staff could stop him.

Reynaga was rushed to a local hospital, but subsequently died from her injuries, Superintendent John Ramirez Jr. confirmed.

Gray, 52, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, The Stockton Record reports.

Authorities initially believed the attacker specifically targeted Aliycia, but later said the stabbing appeared to be a random act.
