The driver of a minivan has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with a school bus crash in Lawrenceville, Ohio, that left one student dead and dozens of others injured.

The Springfield News-Sun reports that Hermanio Joseph, 35, was driving a 2010 Honda Odyssey Tuesday morning northwest of Springfield in Clark County when his car went left of the center line into the path of an oncoming school bus from the Northwestern district. The bus driver tried to avoid a collision by driving onto the shoulder but could not avoid a crash.

Both vehicles went off the side of the road, and the bus rolled over. One child was ejected and died on the scene, and another suffered life-threatening injuries. Dozens more children sustained non-life-threatening and were taken to area medical centers.

The school bus had 52 students and one driver aboard at the time of the crash.
