A shooting at a high school football game in Choctaw, Oklahoma, has left a 16-year-old boy dead and several others injured.

The Oklahoman reports the shooting occurred Friday night during a game between Choctaw and Del City high schools. Authorities said the boy who died was a Midwest City High School student. He was subsequently identified as Cordae Carter, a junior, KWTV-TV reported.

Several victims were transported to area hospitals and treated for their injuries.

Players and fans scrambled for cover when multiple gunshots were fired during the third quarter.

Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall said shots were fired by an unknown number of individuals at the game. An off-duty Del City police officer working security fired at least one shot.

Authorities had not announced an arrest in the case by Sunday afternoon.

Superintendent David Reid of Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools announced in a statement that this week’s football games will be postponed.

School officials said grief counselors will be made available to students.

This weekend’s shooting occurred the same night a 16-year-old boy waved a gun at a football game between Bentonville West (Arkansas) and Booker T. Washington in Tulsa.

Authorities said a brief stampede occurred when people who saw the weapon started running.

No one was injured in the stampede.
