WSB-TV reports that Mario Bailey, a 10th grader at Tri-Cities High School in East Point was wounded outside the school Friday night as people were leaving a basketball game between Tri-Cities and Benjamin Banneker High School.
Police said another student was stabbed after the game. His identity has not been disclosed.
Ethel Lett, Principal of Tri-Cities High School sent a letter to parents Saturday evening confirming the identity of the deceased student Bailey, and offered resources should their children need the support of the district.
"Last night after the basketball game, two Tri-Cities students were critically injured in different altercations on and near campus," Lett said. "It greatly saddens me to inform you that one of the students involved, Mario Bailey, has died."
Counseling has been made available for students. The investigation is ongoing and it is unclear what instigated the violence.
