A 21-year-old man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a student at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Samuel Harris, 21, fled campus after he allegedly shot Alasia Franklin, 21, with a handgun in front of the Austin Residence Complex at Kennesaw State.

Harris, who is not a student, faces charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, officials said. Police have not disclosed a motive in the shooting.

Franklin's mother, Alinda Henderson-Fortner, said Harris was her daughter's former boyfriend.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the victim’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” Kennesaw State President Kathy Schwaig said in a statement.
