2 students and 2 teachers killed in shooting attack at Georgia high school

Authorities say a 14-year-old student opened fire Wednesday morning at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.

Two students and two teachers have been killed and at least nine other people were taken to hospitals with injuries in a shooting attack at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey said in an afternoon news conference that the alleged shooter surrendered to police shortly after the shooting Wednesday morning. He has been identified as Colt Gray, 14, who is a student at the school.

Earlier, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation statement on X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday afternoon confirmed that four people are dead. "An additional nine taken to various hospitals with injuries," the message said.

Some of the critically injured were removed by helicopter, and additional helicopters are on standby.

Apalachee High is part of the Barrow County School System. Winder is about 50 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
