Oct. 17, 2024
Davon Durell Dean, accused of fatally shooting a co-worker at the Southern California college on Oct. 14, refused to surrender to police and took his own life.

The suspect wanted in connection with a fatally shooting at Santa Monica College has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a brief pursuit by police in Hawthorne, California.

The Santa Monica Daily Press reports that authorities identified the suspect as Davon Durell Dean, 39, an employee at the college.

Dean, identified as a custodian at the college, allegedly shot co-worker Felicia Hudson, 54, on Oct. 14 at the college's Center for Media & Design. She died two days later, NBC Los Angeles reports.

Detectives say Hawthorne Police tried to pull over Dean's vehicle Tuesday afternoon.  The car eventually came to a stop near the Los Angeles International Airport, but Dean refused to cooperate with crisis negotiators or exit the vehicle. He was found dead inside his vehicle from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Dean was accused of shooting Hudson late Monday night. Investigators have not disclosed what precipitated the shooting.
