Two students, including the shooter, have died, and another student has been injured after gunfire erupted in the cafeteria of a Nashville, Tennessee, high school.
The Tennessean reports that the shooter, 17, a student at Antioch High School, fatally wounded a female student, then turned the gun on himself and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A third student, 17, suffered a grazing wound and was treated at a local hospital and released.
The shooting victim was identified as 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante, 16. The shooter was Solomon Henderson, 17. Police have yet to disclose the identity of the wounded student.
Metro Nashville Chief of Police John Drake said that Henderson rode the bus to Antioch High School Wednesday morning before making his way to the cafeteria, where he confronted and shot Escalante.
Henderson then fired several rounds before turning the gun on himself, Drake said.
Metro Nashville Public Schools Director Adrienne Battle told reporters after the shooting that multiple safety measures are in place at Antioch High, including school resource officers, a secured vestibule at the entrance and cameras with weapon-detection software.
