Man, 83, charged in weekend shooting at Texas high school

One man was wounded after an 83-year-old man allegedly opened fire Saturday at a high school in Pasadena, Texas.

KTRK-TV reports that say the elderly man armed with a gun entered Pasadena Memorial High School through a backdoor around 6 p.m. while a drum line competition was taking place.

Police say he hid behind a pillar for about two minutes before emerging and firing at least one shot.

A young adult man was hit in the shoulder, and was taken by helicopter to a hospital, where he was reported in stable condition,

The New York Daily News reports that the victim was identified as Dwight Benjamin, a percussion technical consultant for the Angleton Independent School District.

Within a minute of the shooting, police say a parent tackled the shooter; others restrained the suspect and confiscated his weapon.

The gunman reportedly told authorities that he believed he was under attack and feared for his life.

Dennis Erwin Brandl Jr., 83, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
