Student shot and wounded outside Chicago high school

Someone riding in a van near Chicago Vocational Career Academy shot the 17-year-old victim as he walked near the school.

A 17-year-old boy was shot and wounded Tuesday near Chicago Vocational Career Academy on the city’s South Side.

The Chicago Tribune reports that someone in a van shot at the victim as he walked along 87th Street, a block from the high school, at around 4:15 p.m.

The teen, whose identity was not disclosed, was wounded in the buttocks. He was found in a baseball diamond in Owens Park, across the street from Chicago Vocational, and was taken to a local hospital. He was in fair condition, police said.

The victim is a student at a local charter school and does not attend Chicago Vocational, according to Chicago Public Schools.
